Recently, an Italian company called Pesaro has developed a portable safety device, the Byxee, using smart technology. The device can be mounted on any type of bicycle and can alert you to any dangers that may occur in front of the bicycle.

Byxee was invented by Italian AI expert Riccardo Ricci. It is similar to the driver assistance system in modern cars. Its function is to warn the owner when any moving object or dangerous object enters its detection range to help prevent accidents.

This bicycle-mounted device that can be mounted to the handlebar is the result of multiple iterations of the company using 3D printing technology in a few months. Byxee consists of a camera and a microprocessor. The company's own software algorithms can detect shadows and compare images produced under normal daylight conditions with anomalies. Similar to a driver assistance system, if the software determines that an approaching object may be dangerous (any object over 76 mm), the device will alert the rider through the audio. Byxee scans the area 25 meters ahead of the bike at hundreds of times per second – its range of warnings includes a wide range of hazards, from pedestrians to cars, flying objects and potholes on the ground.

Like other innovative smart hardware devices, Byxee can be successfully commercialized thanks to 3D printing technology, which significantly reduces product development costs, especially with iterative iterations at almost negligible cost. For the conceptual design of the 3D printed Byxee model, the development team used a Kentstrapper Volta 3D printer from Italy.

Byxee's development team members come from different industries and have different technical backgrounds. They have also developed smart technology devices for car brands. According to the Byxee team, their products have undergone more than two years of research and development, with repeated modifications and iterations from technical, design and functional perspectives.

The Byxee team has already placed its product on the crowdfunding platform indiegogo. Supporters can buy a Byxee for $139. According to the development team, the retail price of the product is expected to be $249.
