The Guangzhou Institute of Chemistry, Chinese Academy of Sciences uses carbon dioxide and propylene oxide as raw materials to prepare a polycarbonate polyol with a relative molecular weight of about 3000 and a mass fraction of carbonate groups in the molecule of 30% to 40%. The method of full water foaming produces aliphatic polycarbonate polyurethane semi-rigid plastics. This semi-rigid polyurethane has high strength and density compared to conventional semi-rigid polyurethanes. In addition, since the foam contains a large number of COO structural units, its combustion heat is much lower than polyether polyurethane foam, polyester polyurethane foam, etc., and therefore has a certain degree of flame retardancy. Studies have also shown that polyethylene carbonate polyurethane foams obtained from carbon dioxide and ethylene oxide as starting materials have good biodegradability and are very favorable for environmental protection.
