Green environmental protection home improvement survey reveals consumer misunderstanding

Recently, the reporter learned from the China Consumers Association that the first large-scale public welfare survey on the theme of “green environmental protection” in China's home building materials industry started through more than 60 B&Q stores in 26 cities across the country, which lasted one and a half months and involved tens of thousands of Chinese. Ordinary families, the current survey results are released. The survey results show that Chinese consumers have an urgent need for green home improvement products and services, but the relevant cognition is generally one-sided.

Misunderstanding 1: Only re-select materials, design, construction, and inspection are ignored

In this survey, nearly 75% of consumers believe that the selection of materials is the starting point for the realization of “green home improvement”, and other aspects such as design, construction and testing of home improvement are generally ignored. For example, many of the materials used in the decoration of the decoration family are qualified building materials, but the air test report after the completion of the decoration shows that the air quality is unqualified, and harmful gases such as formaldehyde are exceeded. The reason is that the harmful gases released by all the building materials in the whole room have a superposition effect. Although the single building materials are all qualified products, the superimposed emissions are beyond the standard.

Experts said that the single material selection can not guarantee the green environmental protection of home improvement, and the decoration design based on the overall effect is the primary link to truly realize the "green home decoration".

Myth 2: I don't understand the security risks in my home improvement

According to the survey, more than half of Chinese consumers do not understand the safety hazards in home decoration and lack the knowledge to avoid or eliminate these hidden dangers, especially the safety problems caused by construction and other home improvement links. The three major safety hazards of home decoration that consumers are most concerned about are electrical fires, slippery bathrooms, and leaking water pipes.

Relative to the safety issues in home improvement, Chinese consumers have a lower level of awareness of health problems caused by home decoration, and most consumers are not aware of the possible health damage caused by inappropriate home decoration behavior. Harmful gas in the air exceeds the standard, improper lighting arrangement causes visual damage and water pollution is the most concerned home health hazard.

Myth 3: Insufficient awareness of energy saving measures and purchasing methods

The popularity of home improvement energy conservation is relatively high among Chinese consumers, but for some daily simple energy-saving measures and methods of purchasing energy-saving products, consumer awareness is not sufficient. For example, use indoor thermal insulation materials to reduce energy consumption, and correctly purchase sockets with switches or timing. In this survey, consumers generally believe that to achieve green home improvement, we should consider home improvement products and services from three aspects: safety, health and energy conservation.

Home improvement consumption misunderstanding

Dong Jingsheng, deputy secretary-general of the China Consumers Association, told reporters that consumers have an urgent need for green homes, but there are many misunderstandings about their cognition. This shows the necessity of green environmental protection and home improvement consumption education. As a result of the survey, we will formulate a plan for consumer education, cooperate with relevant departments, industry associations, and enterprises to popularize scientific and correct knowledge of green home decoration consumption to consumers. Based on the results of this survey, China Consumers Association will also make recommendations to relevant state departments and call for policies that are conducive to the consumption of environmentally friendly products.
